A square-neck tankini top in red and white stripes, on thick adjustable straps, with side ruching and a shelf bra built into it — a top sold on its own, so you choose what goes underneath.

Because it comes without bottoms, the red stripe is yours to finish. Two high-waist bottoms carry the same stripe in different directions — the Vertical Red Stripe runs the line with the leg and lengthens the look, while the Horizontal Red Stripe picks the direction up from the top itself. If you would rather not make the decision at all, the Red Stripe Knotted One-Piece does the whole stripe in one garment.

A red-and-white stripe with a square neck is the nautical end of swimwear rather than the tropical end, which makes this the top for a lake, a boat or a pool where you want to look put together standing up as well as swimming. Rinse it in cool fresh water afterwards and lay it flat to dry; chlorine, salt and wringing out the ruching are what take the stretch out of spandex.
